New Beginnings Prenatal Program

The New Beginnings prenatal and postnatal group meets at Family Place in Summerside on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The group is for expectant and new parents of all ages and is offered free of charge.


Topics include: fetal development, labour and delivery, hospital tour, healing after birth, healthy nutrition – even on a budget, new baby care, taking care of mom, feeding with love, common parenting challenges, breastfeeding, baby’s crying and sleep habits, common baby illnesses, infant development, postpartum depression, Diaper Fit (swimming at the Wellness Centre) referrals and more.


Program includes: a nutritious yummy meal, food supplements and resource kits. 

Beyond the Bump Postnatal Group

Participants graduating from the New Beginnings group are invited to attend the weekly Rock & Talk (R&T) program. The group meets on Thursday's from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Family Place. The group is for moms, dads, caregivers and their children (aged infant to 3 years old) and is offered free of charge. At the end of the session the group enjoys a healthy snack together. This program is offered at Family Place in Summerside on.


Topics include: Infant care (infant nutrition, infant care & safety, infant growth & development; first aid & CPR, infant stimulation), parenting (parenting styles, ages and stages, discipline, language development, literacy for little ones, infant & child development, building self esteem, playing it safe), personal growth & development (healthy relationships, Just for Fun (crafts, makeovers, etc.), time management, money matters, what’s out there, active communication, employment & education, goal setting, stress management) and healthy living (nutrition & healthy living, community kitchen cooking class).​

Program includes: a nutritious snack, food supplements form breastfeeding moms and resource kits. 

Parent-Teen (Pre & Postnatal)

This program is for pregnant and parenting teens attending TOSH and is offered at Three Oaks Senior High School. Come and enjoy a healthy lunch and talk about and receive relevant information regarding pregnancy, birth and parenting. 


Program includes: a nutritious yummy lunch, food supplements and resource kits. 

Maternity & Baby Clothes Basket 

There is a baby and maternity clothes basket and resource kit library you can access while at the centre.

Baby Box Bassinets 

FREE Baby Box bassinets promoting safe sleep and filled with baby items from Baby Box University are available in PEI!
If you’ve had a baby within the last two months or are expecting a baby you can register at Baby Box University www.babyboxuniversity.com to get your certificate.
If you live in East Prince County contact Family Place to coordinate pickup of your Baby Box.

Bosom Buddies Mom to Mom Telephone Support

Bosom Buddies pairs trained support moms who have breastfed with  breastfeeding mothers. Support moms provide support and connection to breastfeeding and family resources. Any pregnant or breastfeeding mom wishing support from another mom may sign up. The breastfeeding mom decides when and how long to receive support (up to babies 3rd month). Bosom Buddies Breastfeeding Support Group

This weekly informal yet informative group is offered in partnership with East Prince Health. The group meets on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Family Place. If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mom who would like breastfeeding information and support bring your baby to our weekly group. Nursing babies and toddlers are welcome to attend with mom. There are weekly topics, a monthly visit from a lactation consultant, open discussion, baby weigh-ins, baby massage techniques, nutritional food supplements, library time and a nutritious snack. The program is offered weekly at Family Place in Summerside.

Program includes: a nutritious snack, food supplements form breastfeeding moms and resource kits. 

Breast Pump Loan & Attachments

Family Place has hospital grade breast pumps available to borrow free of charge for short term loans. We try to accommodate all requests but serious issues such as premature baby, low birth weight baby, low milk production, weaning and other medical concerns take priority. We also have breast pump attachments available to purchase at cost.

Stroller Fit

Family Place’s Stroller Fit At the Credit Union Place Walking Track Tuesday’s from 1:00-2:00 pm


This is a FREE program — all are welcome to attend! Join us on Tuesdays for a fun, healthy Stroller Fit activity for you and your baby or young child (for safety reasons, they must be in a stroller). We meet at the Credit Union Place just before 1:00 p.m. and power around the walking track with our Stroller Fit buddies. This is a great way to socialize and get a bit of physical activity into your week!

Stars & Strollers

Grab your baby and toddler for an outing at the Cineplex Movie Theatre in Summerside! Join us on the last Friday of the Month at 11:30 a.m. The cost is 10.99 for adults, 7.50 for youth and free for children under 2!

Baby Weigh Scales

You can use our hospital grade baby scales to weigh your baby between doctors visits. 

Reggio Inspired Early Learning Program L#4466

We are now accepting registrations for our Reggio inspired early learning programs for the September 2018– June 2019 school year. The program runs Monday to Friday afternoon from 1:00-3:30 p.m. 













Reggio Subsidies

Almost all of our programs are FREE! We do charge tuition for our Reggio Inspired early Learning program but do offer subsidies to those unable to attend without support. The subsidy is part of the registration package (see below).

Resource kits contain a variety of up to date resources on various topics. The kits are yours to keep!

Clothing Exchange & Community Cupboard

The Clothing Exchange program allows parents to ‘exchange' their used children's and maternity clothing for those available at the exchange. Although it is not necessary to donate clothing to access this service please consider donating your gently used maternity, infant and children’s clothing for our clothing exchange. We also have a variety of 'helpful' items such as coupons, nonperishable food, personal hygiene items, etc. 

Newborn Literacy Program 

Books for Babies is a hospital based family literacy program for newborns and their parents/ caregivers living in Prince Edward Island. Parents are provided with literacy materials and referral information during their hospital stay after the birth of their newborn child. The program is designed to strengthen, promote and support family literacy; to support parents in their child’s early literacy and global development; to recognize and support parents as their child’s first and most important teacher; to build a foundation of positive attitudes towards literacy; and to make reading and books an integral part of the child’s life beginning at birth.

A limited number of travel subsidies are offered to those who need support to attend programming. Please contact the centre for details and availability.

Programs and Services are Free

Almost all of our programs are free of charge (though we welcome donations) while some programs charge tuition like Reggio Kids. Families who would not be able to attend without support to cover the cost of registration, or need help with transportation or childcare are encouraged to apply for a subsidy. We want to ensure that all families have access to our programs and services.
