New Beginnings Prenatal Program
The New Beginnings prenatal group is an 8-session online prenatal program. Facilitators are formally trained through CAPPA & DONA as childbirth educators as well as birth and postpartum doulas. The program also includes Baby Weigh Scale, Food Security (Food Supplements & Gift Cards), Free baby supplies (free diapers, wipes, coupons, resources). This free program is designed for pregnant women and their partners/ support people. Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Full Circle Family Doula Program
This program provides a variety of supports to childbearing-aged mothers and their families living in PEI. Our volunteer doulas are trained to provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and after childbirth (and beyond) to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. The services available through the Full Circle Family Doula Program include support through trained: Birth doulas, Postpartum Doulas, and Parenting Support Doulas.
Infant Massage
Touch is such an important sense to nurture and grow as it helps promote brain development, bonding, and communication.
Babies should be at least one month old & ideally pre-crawlers. The facilitator is a certified ECE & Certified IAIM infant massage instructor. Program is offered at the CUP on Wednesdays or Thursdays from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Registration is requires. If you do not get into the current class your name will be place on the list for the next class,
Beyond the Bump New Baby Club
Participants graduating from the New Beginnings group are invited to attend the weekly Beyond the Bump Postnatal program. The group is for moms, dads, caregivers and their children (aged infant to 1 years old) and is offered free of charge. Diaper Fit at the pool once per month (you must be part of the program to participate). This program is offered at Family Place in Summerside on Thursday’s from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Breast Pump Loan & Attachments
Family Place has hospital grade breast pumps available to borrow free of charge for short terms. We try to accommodate all requests but serious issues such as premature baby, low birth weight baby, low milk production, weaning and other medical concerns take priority. We also sell breast pump attachments available at cost.
Clothing Exchange & Community Cupboard
Through partnerships with local agencies, gently used infant, children’s and maternity clothing is available to families free of charge. We also welcome donations of maternity, infant and children’s clothing and other items.
We have a number of free resources on various topics including prenatal, infant care, nutrition, breastfeeding, parenting, etc. We also have a variety of 'helpful' items such as coupons, nonperishable food, personal hygiene items, etc.
Newborn Literacy Program
Books for Babies is a hospital based family literacy program for newborns and their parents/ caregivers living in Prince Edward Island. Parents are provided with literacy materials and referral information during their hospital stay after the birth of their newborn child. The program is designed to strengthen, promote and support family literacy; to support parents in their child’s early literacy and global development; to recognize and support parents as their child’s first and most important teacher; to build a foundation of positive attitudes towards literacy; and to make reading and books an integral part of the child’s life beginning at birth.
Parent-Teen (Pre & Postnatal)
